Women and football

I had no mood to blog but i had to speak my heart out in this topic.

It all started like this. I went to meet a fren to watch the Liverpool vs Newcastle match. I went all the way to a mamak shop(bout 15-20 mins away) to meet this fren who said he could meet me there.

Then when i just reached there and we were just about to seat get a place to seat, suddenly his girlfren suddenly asked him to go back with her. My fren planned to pass the car keys to her and wait for another fren to fetch him or take the bus.

Oh...then she started to show the heart-melting face etc etc..... Then suddenlyout of the many words, a line came out of her mouth which I couldn't tahan....

FOOTBALL IS STUPID. 22 GUYS CHASING AROUND FOR A BALL FOR WHAT? yada yada yada (roughly)

Wah....that time i tak boleh tahan dee....we were hanging outside the shop while i peeked at the TV screen as the game was going on....

Wat liau...So my fren gave in and left with her...

haih..watever...

Suddenly he appeared again and said he managed to escape...hahaha

Dear "girlfren", if you're reading this, I wanna say i'm cool with that incident. No hard feelings.
Nobody will ever know the real identities of the ppl in this topic. It's just that i found this topic interesting to blog about.

Btw, tell me girls/guys/gays ;) - is football stupid? What say u?

Btw,to my future girlfren....u got to know that i gila bola....sorry la...it will indeed take some time or a lot of time at certain parts of the year...so don't say i didn't warn u.

the pic above is just for fun .....hahahaha....

christmas lagi

christmas isn't christmas till it happens in your heart..........

somewhere deep inside you is where christmas really starts......

so

.

..

...

....

......

........

................

.....................

...............................

...............................................

....

....

...

hmmm...nothing much is happening nowadays

wonder why the christmas feeling decreases as i grow up

the feeling of christmas ain't the same anymore

Of coz, christmas is still about hope and love and joy because of Jesus.

That doesn't change no matter how I feel.

Some ppl lost it or forgotten or got disappointed.

I say this coz I've seen and known ppl who are lost and disappointed.

It's kind of painful when when I think of them.

Thinking only won't help I know.

I have to continue praying for them(which I have been slacking at lately)

ya ya same old story....lol

Many of us live like hypocrites. I'm one of them from time to time.

The difference we can make is that WE TRY to change.

With God's help we can.

Well, it's not over until Jesus says it's over.

.....So give your heart to Jesus

You’ll discover when you do

That it’s Christmas, really Christmas for you!

Hmmm .... when was the alst time I invited anyone to church or to a church event...

Empty?

Below is a post written by a dear friend of mine. What do u say when a friend writes things like this? It does ache my heart to see it but these things are real. The title of her post is "Empty".
Btw, FYI, this post is addressed to God ( just in case some of you can't get it).

There has to be a way away from these thoughts and fear, I don't want to feel the condemnation whenever I see someone in love with you. Whenever I hear or read someone trusting you the way i will never be able to, the way they repent and return to you and I am unable, the way they long for you and your will and I am blind and without passion, the way they can love you and worship you but I am in this dank dark corner, numb and loveless. I don't want to fear that I have allowed myself eternal pain because of not believing that you are the solution. It's like I am killing myself slowly regretting this, regretting leaving you, but with you I am still dying. It's not choice or free will that we are talking about, it's not about giving up my life for your purpose, it's the question on whether you have given me a life in the first place. With you I can only see how I am unable to relate or connect with you, with you I can only see how handicapped you have made me. Whatever for? Do you break the legs of your child so that you can carry him forever? Do you rub poison into the eyes of your own flesh and blood so that she can only see the world through your eyes? Did you give me pain so that I can only see you as the solution? Why must you be the only way? I have forced myself to remove my handicapped self from you care. So that I won't be with you, you who made me like this. this ugly, pulsating, evil, loveless monster, and then promise to love me just as the way I am and make me beautiful again. Am I your puppet? I may not be able to survive this world alone without you because of my handicap, but you, I will not allow myself to owe my survival to you anymore. So let the fear come.

I really dunno what to say. The only thing I think can relate to(very very vaguely i guess) is how a parent "controls" or gives me rules which don't make sense to me or I am not happy to follow. Yes, my mom does love me and I can see it. But there are many rules and things she does which upsets me. I remember my "younger" days when I get these kind of words said to me " I don't care if u hate me but this is final" or "Don't be surprised if you find your clothes outside on the road if you go on like this." Coming to think of it, I forgot how I got these words said to me. I must have been naughty...hehe...ppl think I'm just a good boy. I remember times when I would throw my tantrum out of anger and frustration. All because of the things my mom said or the rules I have to follow.

I have to thank God that all that is way past me now. I'm have been having a good relationship with my mom for quite long dee. Only in the past, during those teen years when at times I thought things wouldn't get better.

Now I seem to be able to accept everything my mom has "done" to me. I admit most of what she did was for my own good.

I have to confess that I do thank God for freeing me from my cage in Penang. Hehehe. I really learnt a lot from staying in KL. But nothings beats the comfort and love I get at home from Mom.

I seem to have swayed out of topic but that's it....I can't say anymore for now...

the hard part after camp

I think most of us had gone to at least one camp this year-CF camps, church youth camps, church family camp, etc.

Someone mentioned that blogs don't show the whole and true picture of our lives. I do agree. It's kind of hard to just reveal everything bout our lives here.

Anyway, I wanna try to be as open as I can here.

Most of the messages from the camp I attended at Cameron Highlands with my CF from UM were stuff I've heard before. But of coz, I slacked and forgot. I ignored many of it.

Come to think of it, i may be wrong to say that I've heard most of the messages before.
Here's one thing i never heard b4
-do u know that by just attending church meeting, events, etc, you are actually contributing to the unity of the church?
This is important coz most ppl feel insignificant or their service time is up( for seniors) or if they're not serving they don't have to go. I understand this coz I oso feel this way sometimes(whether i realise or not).

Here's the hard part.
-to put to practice what I've heard.

I have to admit I'm having lots of temptations waiting for me everyday. One of the challenges I got from the camp was to spend more time with God-in others words, have a consistent quiet time with God.

Adoi...banyak susah la. Let me tell u why. I got

FIFA 09
FOOTBALL MANAGER 09
OTHER GAMES
PRISON BREAK SEASON 4
SMALLVILLE SEASON 7 & 8
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
ANIME
MOVIES(lots of them)
INTERNET
ETC
MOMMY(hehe)

OK la. Fine. I realise if I continue allow these things to take first place, I'll be pushing God away.

Have I forgotten my first love-Jesus? Haih...hope not.....better not

Fellow comrades out there, how are u doin????

Still in the suicide mission?

Poetic Rebuttal

I kind of expected someone to "tembak balik" my poem bout women int the previous post.

When i saw this comment from my friend, i couldn't stop laughing....hahaha

Here it is:

Poh Poh said:

Man have crazy imaginations
Thought that women is a magician
He don't even know how 2 question
That's my conclusion

My explanation:
When man dirty the house,he espect the women 2 just use the fairy stick (broom + mop) then *qink qink*..the house is clean..
When the kids r naughty,he espect the women 2 use the fairy stick (rotan) then "qink qink"..the kids r now obediant..man hardly open his mouth n offer : "how can i help u in the house work"..man feel that they r outside earning $$
so women take more resposibilty on teaching the kids..
:P

nice one Poh poh....See la,if i got time i'll think of something to rebutt...but i guess i should not.
Why? Coz
Women indeed have wild imaginations,
A few words in a poem may lead to confusion,
So I will not try to reason or question,
That is still my conclusion.
:P :P :P

poetic "truths"

I randomly wrote these 3 poems down just for fun...are they even poems?

Temptation!

I used the temptation
To soothe the tension
But it was a distraction
Which lead to more tension

Women!

Women have wild imaginations
One word can lead to confusion
Don't even try to reason
That is my conclusion

Study!

I know i should study
But somehow i'm lazy
I'm taking it easy
Oh no... i'm crazy

M.I. 7

Here are some updates of my "life". I know I should be studying but Mom had to talk to me tru skype. Then I got sidetracked and decided to do this.

EXAMS

Final Exams are coming soon....so soon...too soon. It's like "Mission Impossible" 7 for me coz it's the 7th final exams I'll be facing in university. I tot i was gonna face only 6 M.I.s. But it turned out to be that i'll be facing 8. Here are the dates: 5,6,8,13,15,17.

As u've seen in my past posts, I've been "emo"ing bout stuff. One of it it is my failure to prepare for this final exam. I'd like to say I did my best but I kind of failed. Not every setback was my fault but there are many times which I can clearly point the finger at myself.

CAMP

Next, I'll be in Cameron Highlands for the PKVUM camp at Cameron Highlands, 24-27 Nov. I actually just went to the same campsite in Sept for 3rd College's CCC camp.

CONFESSION

I was sleeping again at church on Sunday. I didn't sleep the whole nite and then decided to go to SIBKL for the 8.30am service coz I'm afraid I may not be able to travel all the way to ACTS at Subang due to tiredness. In fact a thought of skipping church came to mind. After all, exams were coming and I was tired....I'm glad I didn't.

I was expecting God to speak again. I've been facing problems and disappointments and have been bombarded by questions I am not ready to answer or can never answer. I just needed to hear something. I felt guilty coz I didn't honor God by sleeping early and then go to church expecting God to speak....I'm sure you're familiar with this phrase.
I tot I wouldn't survive when the topic was given: The Passover Lamb, a continuation of the Moses Series(something like that). In my heart "oh no...wat liau...old testament...moses..how la?"
Anyway, I think God did speak. I was fighting to stay awake until Pastor Chew started his story.

To cut the long story short. During his medical student days at UM,he was visiting a girl who met an accident which broke both her legs. She was a backslidden christian. Some ppl dun like the word backslide so apologize coz i can't think of any other word for now.

He did that for 6 weeks and at the end of it, she asked him: DOES GOD LOVE ME?(just imagine if someone asks you this)
He answered: Yes,God loves you.
She did replied,"THEN WHY DID HE ALLOW BOTH MY LEGS TO BE BROKEN?" (oh....wat a big blow!)

I dunno la. I have been facing these questions and will continue to face them. I'm sure we all have and will.

The question I remebered from Pastor Sandra Chin was Who is the anchor of your life?

Fellow comrades, don't think I'm not struggling in this. I am. But let's go tru this together. How together? That's another question.

Anyway, what really struck me in that sermon was from Hebrews 12. God disciplines those He loves. An issue bout God hardening Pharoah's heart was raised. this has been one of those tough questions. The pastor's opinion was: God's way of hardening anyone's heart is to lift His hands from a person's life. Meaning, the person gets to do whatever he wants for the rest of his life. I don't know how to put it nicely but I guess if God doesn't discipline us for our wrongs, we'll end up rotting and going the wrong way.

I know I need discipline although I don't like what I'm going tru. Sometimes I feel it's like I'm going tru a combination of the "Joseph,Job,Abraham" life...anyway, this is another story for another time.
I almost forgotten, that girl in that story ended up being married to a christian guy and is now serving in church again. That was many years after la. Hmmmm...i guess we shouldn't give up hope on ourselves and other ppl.

TESTIMONY

Mom had to tell me something so she asked me to go to skype. I'll cut it short again. She told me how she was blessed in a small broker deal and how God's favor was upon her throughout the process.

She said, don't ever stop giving to God. Don't stop trusting in Him.

Okla, I hv to include more info to make things clear. Briefly, My family is goin tru a financial crisis. While i'm "enjoying" college food everyday, my mom and bro aren't eating as normal times as they would like to. But despite this(and the other painful problems which I will not mention here), my mom continued to give to the church large amounts of money from time to time. At times I wonder why my mom had to do it. I can't deny there were thoughts like"we are facing these problems and I think God would understand" do come tru my mind.

Anyway, we still survived till today. if not for God, i dunno how.....i really dunno how. All i can say is God keeps to His Word bout tithing and giving to His Kingdom. Even my bro and I have been tithing and giving since our school days. And we never lacked anything good.
My mom got a good 2nd hand Kancil for an unbelievable price.

My bro got a used laptop from an aunty.

I got monthly allowance from someone from chruch.

These are just the few things we got. What else to say than

THANK GOD!

There are many things we can still complain about.
Do u know the feeling of the eldest son who can't do anything much to help his family?
I should already be working but I ended up extending for another year.

Do u know how my mom feels? The burden and lonliness, the health problems, pain, pain and pain?
What bout my bro? i never asked how he felt....

What else is there to say?

THANK YOU GOD for You are faithful .We chose to follow You and we'll do it all the way. Only You can help us go tru this. You are Good. You're our only hope.

the end....i took too long ...too long...to write this. now back to the battlefield.....now i got to suffer....argh!!

Stained Glass Masquerade

I've been too busy to blog. This mountain is really so hard to climb. Winds and storms never stop coming time and time again. I really dunno will i ever reach the the other side of the mountain. I seem to have forgotten my dream of wanting reach the peak.

I think i have more to say this time before I continue climbing my mountain of books and notes. Here goes.....

And here is the rest of it. Anyway, I've been quite disappointed with myself lately and "consistently" this season. The things I wanna do I don't do, the things don't wanna do I do. Or in fact, the things I know I shouldn't do I always do.

I so easily forget to be grateful for all God has given to me even while I'm in this storm. The repeating pattern is like this: when things get too hard and I'm too tired, I immediately forget my goals,to be grateful,to be thankful, that I'm a child of God.....and I just immediately leave the path of discipline and go back my own selfish ways.

U know how awkward and uneasy it feels when someone tells u that he or she wants to be just like u? When people says you're so "holy"? When people look up to u? When people think u are the type who "reads the bible and pray regularly" (which is so not true)? When people say u're so "innocent" (u hv no idea)?

Just realise one thing. I'm just as sinful as everyone of u out there. I fail when times are tough. When I fail nobody knows.

I see myself shaken to the core. My stands and perceptions are being challenged daily.

Are we Christians all talk and no action? Are we so caught up with ourselves and neglect what matters? I know I have been.

A friend once said," I just don't like to be treated the way the potter(God) treats the clay. I don't want to be "remade" again and again so that i can be the vessel he wants me to be." (my version)

Jeremiah 18:4
But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make.

I guess most of us just aren't willing to be reshaped. It's a give-and-take relationship. Even I rebel all the time against the potter.

A writer wrote," God can rightfully be described as a potter but God is not a potter in all respects." I think it means that we're not just "instruments" or "puppets" that are being controlled. We do hv free will. God is described using many metaphors(for e.g. rock, etc). This one does apply in certain situations.

Enuf la for now.

Here's a song by Casting Crowns-Stained Glass Masquerade. I think youtube got if wanna listen to it.

Is there anyone that fails
Is there anyone that falls
Am I the only one in church today feelin’ so small

Cause when I take a look around
Everybody seems so strong
I know they’ll soon discover
That I don’t belong

So I tuck it all away, like everything’s okay
If I make them all believe it, maybe I’ll believe it too
So with a painted grin, I play the part again
So everyone will see me the way that I see them

*Chorus*
Are we happy plastic people
Under shiny plastic steeples
With walls around our weakness
And smiles to hide our pain
But if the invitation’s open
To every heart that has been broken
Maybe then we close the curtain
On our stained glass masquerade

Is there anyone who’s been there
Are there any hands to raise
Am I the only one who’s traded
In the altar for a stage

The performance is convincing
And we know every line by heart
Only when no one is watching
Can we really fall apart

But would it set me free
If I dared to let you see
The truth behind the person
That you imagine me to be

Would your arms be open
Or would you walk away
Would the love of Jesus
Be enough to make you stay

Chorus x2

Well if the invitation’s open
To every heart that has been broken
Maybe then we close the curtain
On our stained glass masquerade

Is there anyone that fails
Is there anyone that falls
Am I the only one in church today feelin’ so small

"The Artist" and Maths

I took a personality at bout 3am plus at this website http://www.mypersonality.info/ .

....I was so indecisive and took quite long to finish them. Suit Lin had to explain to me most of the questions. In fact, the questions weren't so easy to answer(for me la). Wat to do? I kept questioning the questions.

As u can see, the result is I'm in "the Artist" category. LOL. So, why the heck am I studying Maths?
Haha. I'll just hv to finish what i started. i'm sure so many students out there are studying "whatever that comes their way"...if u know what i mean

MOM meets MESSENGER

How many moms actually know how to use Windows Live Messenger?
I honestly didn't want to teach my mom but it was the best and cheapest way to communicate with me while I'm at UM.

Read more to find out some "consequences" i faced for doing so.

Btw, mom calls herself queenbees.
My display name pula is etcetc api

Here are some consequences you might face:

You'll be asked all sorts of questions from time to time.

You MUST reply her or you'll be "accused" of playing games.

You may be asked bout the reason u put a certain Display Name.
As u can see below, I was asked the meaning of "Qi Dai Ni De Ai". It actually means waiting for/anticipating your love. Mom first asked the meaning. After i told her the meaning, she started asking more questions....hahaha

Btw, Qi Dai Ni De Ai was sung by this guy JJ. It's quite a popular song which I just learned just recently.

Here's the first line....

U blame it all on Urself but
U are not sure whether it's fully Ur fault.
Why? Coz God may be testing U.
But that U may not accept that coz again, U blame Urself.
U ask:
Will I ever change?
Did I trust God? DId I lean on my own understanding?
How do I know if I did trust God?
How do I know if i did not lean on my own understanding?
Why didn't I learn from my past mistakes?
I know it's not always the results that count but I can't help but feel down

Suicide Mission? and many many many other questions...

I dunno why I’m blogging bout this but I just can’t keep it in my mind anymore.
It all started with this question: “Who said that we can glorify God through our studies? “
But as u will read later….I somehow wrote more than I expected....haha
Who said so? Who set the standard?
Who said that we can glorify God through our studies?

Even our non-Christian friends can do it.
They can thank their “gods” too.
They also know how to balance their time and be disciplined.
They also join activities and yet still do well.
They also know when to do good and give to charity.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

People dare to ask us to do well or at least pass
but they RARELY challenge us to lay up treasure in heaven or seek God’s Kingdom first.

Do we feel secure only when we do well in our studies?
Do we feel secure only when we are in a popular course?
Do we feel secure only when we get what we want?
Do we feel secure only if we study overseas?
Do we feel secure only when we get a good paying job?
Do we feel secure only when we have a bf/gf?
Do we feel secure only when we have enough pocket money or salary?
Do we feel secure only when we have lots of friends?
Do we feel secure only if we were brought up in a “better” family?
Do we feel secure only when we have talents which people can see?
Do we feel secure only we have good looks and shape?
Do we feel secure only when our hair looks nice? lol
Do we feel secure if we have an outgoing personality?
Do we feel secure only when we have nice clothes to wear?

WHY IS IT ALWAYS ABOUT “US”?

People always give testimonies bout good results, scholarships, salary increment, promotions, new cars, new houses etc etc etc?

What bout those who are just average or lower?
What bout those who can’t afford to go to college or university?
What bout those who have failed in the past and find hard to get up?
What bout ex-drug addicts?
Toilet washers?
Sweepers?
Waiters?
Promoters?
Cashiers?
Security guards?

HOW TO LIVE OUT THESE VERSES? Matthew 6:19-34

Hehe…quite controversial …What do u think? I just wanna let out what’s in my mind.

HARD?
NO FEELING?
NO MOOD?
DON’T KNOW HOW?
NO PASSION?
DON’T KNOW WHY U GO TO CHURCH?
DON’T KNOW HOW TO BE A CHRISTIAN?
FEEL HOPELESS?
FEELING SMALL?
SO MANY “CHRISTIANS” WEARING MASKS?
SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS?

Welcome to the family…..
Welcome to the battlefield….
We are on a “SUICIDE” MISSION….

“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” - Matthew 16:24-26

Suicide mission?
I dunno how I got this idea. But it just came one day when I was replying to a friend’s post.
If you never reach situations in your life when u feel that u’re losing your life(dreams, ambitions, security, comfort, time, etc) while seeking God, then you are not “losing ur life”.

For example:
You serve and u serve but it feels dry…….
You read book after book but u feel even more lost….
You go to meeting after meeting but u still don’t find what u want….
You sacrifice and sacrifice but don’t seem to see results…..

Don’t apply this out of context. Don’t get me wrong.

Let’s “lose our lives” for God together then….
YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY ONE STRUGGLING.
I’M WITH YOU IN THIS “SUICIDE” MISSION
WE, THE FAMILY OF CHRIST ARE WITH YOU IN THIS.
DON’T RUN THIS RACE ALONE.
PICK YOURSELF UP AND LET’S FIGHT THIS BATTLE TOGETHER.

Had enough talking and singing and thinking? Jesus said GO……….

Here’s a meaningful song by Casting Crowns called Lifesong.

Empty Hands held high
Such Small sacrifice
If not joined with my life
I sing in vain tonight

May the words I say
And the things I do
Make my lifesong sing
Bring a smile to you
Chorus:
Let my lifesong sing to You
Let my lifesong sing to You
I want to sign your name
to the end of this day
Knowing that my heart was true
Let my lifesong sing to You

LORD, I give my life
A Living sacrifice
To reach a world in need
To be your hands and feet

So may the words I say
And the things I do
Make my lifesong sing
Bring a smile to You

Chorus

Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Let my lifesong sing to You (x3)

Chorus (x2)

Do long distance relationships work?

No….I haven’t found someone yet….hehe. Just thought of blogging bout this for a change.

Just wondering la….I was thinking what if....... ........what if I get a gf who is still studying or working here in KL and I pula have to go back to Penang next year.
Why? Coz Mom is there. I’d prefer to be with her and my bro. I wonder………. will I change my decision just because of a girl? Of coz there are reasons like better job offer, etc which may change my decision.

Then, who knows where she’ll be working after she graduates?
Or will she continue working in KL or other place?
Ya,…ppl sure say if u love the girl,u’ll follow her wherever she goes la or if she loves u, she’ll do the same.
………….But…..What does God say………..???

Then, the normal problems of communication, getting to know each other more, etc etc
So how???

Of coz God knows who He’ll bring into my life la. If He somehow says “we” can handle it…then oklo

At the moment I don’t see how I’ll be able to “handle” any girl. I hope I’ll learn more bout this “species” in the mean time so I’ll be ready to love “her” when she comes into my life.

As I’m ending this post, I’m laughing coz its odd for me to suddenly post this kind of stuff….

No…………… I didn’t fall in love…………yet......

Desiring God????

I'm still learning how to desire God. It's a lifetime process....
It gets hard to know God from time to time... Oh yeah...He's either unpredictable or we just can't accept what He is doing in our lives.......etc etc

The purpose of this post is simply just to introduce a website which I find is very "educational" for those who wanna grow in their understanding of God and His Word.
John Piper really challenges us according to God's Word and makes you think....
He's not a feel good teacher of the Word...yes u can get encouragement but I personally feel we need people like him to rebuke and remind us of the ways of God.
http://www.desiringgod.org/

The latest sermon I heard (after a long time not vissiting the site) is entitled "Don't be anxious, lay up treasure in heaven,Part 2" U can read the summary and download the audio sermon. I'd recommend you to download it coz faith comes by hearing the Word of God and that the summary can't really challenge you.
Stop downloading pirated stuff for once..and download something good for ur soul....;p
http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Sermons/ByDate/2003/128_Dont_Be_Anxious_Lay_Up_Treasure_in_Heaven_Part_2/
It was really a good reminder and rebuke for me....U gotta listen to it to get what i mean...
I had to replay certain parts a few times coz I couldn't get what he was saying or it was so good that I had to hear it again...
For example:
"be careful not to elevate your pain and the monster in your life to the level where Jesus doesn't know what He is talking about and that His remedies and prescriptions and reasons are USELESS to you" at time 34.20 in his sermon.

"He wants to teach you what it is to have father. The bible is never dependent on human analogies that we experience. He want to come and say,"you had a bad father? I'll show what a father is supposed to be" at time 38.15

Honestly,I wouldn't listened to this sermon if i didn't Google to find out what verse had "laying up treasure in heaven". So, I was not super holy or desired God so much till i decided to learn more by listening to sermon after sermon....I believe and thank God that I stumbled upon this message coz i really needed it...

Do you realise that when Jesus said that if we seek God's Kingdom first, all these things shall be added unto us, these things refers to what we need but not what we want? We tend to get disappointed when we don't get what we want from God but do we really need everything we asked or hope for? God does give us what we want from time to time but does He have to do that always?

Haih...i don't even know why i wrote this long... as u can see on top i wrote that it was simply just to introduce that website....hahaha

Imperfect Heroes

This is a simple but interesting article to read from

Imperfect Heroes
All Heroic Movie Characters have something holding them back.
by Tom WP Kapr

I love to tag along on amazing adventures with great heroes. However, the funny thing I've noticed about movie heroes—like Indiana Jones, Luke Skywalker, and Harry Potter—is that they aren't perfect. They, like any of us, have flaws and weaknesses. Despite their shortcomings, however, these heroes overcome their weakness to become something more. This is what makes them so interesting to watch. It allows us imperfect people to relate to them. If they can do it, we think, so can I.

Imperfect heroes aren't just in the movies. The heroes of the Bible also aren't perfect (well, except for Jesus). From Abraham to the Apostle Paul, the great figures of faith were real people with flaws of their own, but God worked through them despite their issues. In fact, God often shaped them—through their flaws—into the heroes they were. Why? Because his power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

The flawed heroes from Scripture are so much like those in the cinema that I found similar pairs of heroes who all faced—and overcame—five common weaknesses.

Flaw #1: Deceitfulness
Captain Jack Sparrow and Jacob (Genesis 25-50) share a major character flaw: They're both tricksters who exploit the needs and emotions of others to get what they want. The Pirates of the Caribbean captain is an opportunist whose motto is, "Take all you can! Give nothing back!" Not a very heroic motto. And Jacob's very name means "he grasps the heel," a phrase indicating he's a deceiver who takes advantage of others. Jacob took advantage of his older brother Esau's hunger in order to get Esau to sell him his inheritance. Then, he tricked his blind father into giving him Esau's blessing.

When those he was manipulated turned the tables on him, Jack Sparrow's deceptions came back around to bite him (literally—he was eaten by the kraken!). Likewise, Jacob was tricked into marrying the wrong woman. Both Jack and Jacob's deceptions backfired, and both of them consequently had to pay heavy punishments for their treachery.

In the end, both men were redeemed. Jack sacrificially saved his friends, freed the Caribbean of a tyrant, and was regarded as a hero. So, too, we remember Jacob as a hero of our faith. He humbly sought his brother's forgiveness and depended on God alone.

Flaw #2: Fear
In The Incredibles, Violet is a shy, insecure teenager who fears rejection by her peers. Being the daughter of Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, she has inherited her own super-trait: Turning invisible at will. Her invisibility symbolizes her desire to avoid being seen because she fears attention—especially from the boy she likes. She's afraid of rejection and worried that she's not worth much so she stays quiet and unseen. Eventually, she has to overcome her fears with courage to become the heroine she is meant to be.

There's a young girl in Bible times very much like Violet. Through a series of fateful circumstances, Esther became the queen of Persia. Years later, she learned of a plot to destroy the Jews, but she was afraid to go to her husband, the king. In those times, anyone who went before the king without permission could be put to death. Esther overcame her fear when Mordecai helped her realize she could not remain silent. In fact, he said, she'd "come to royal position for such a time as this" (Esther 4:14, NIV). She did go to the king, spoke her mind and was spared. Her heroic act saved the entire Jewish nation from annihilation, much like Violet's courage helped save the world. (The only difference is that Violet had to fight giant robots.)

Flaw #3: Pride
In Cars, Lightning McQueen is a rookie taking the racing world by storm. The only thing bigger than Lightning's celebrity status is his ego. He has no pit crew chief; he doesn't see the need for one since he's calling the shots. He can't even think of a single friend to invite to the biggest race of his career. Lightning has a character flaw obvious to everyone but himself: pride. When stuck in the little town of Radiator Springs, he discovers there's an entire beautiful world beyond both the racetrack and himself.

Simon Peter could be considered Jesus' right-hand man during the Messiah's time on Earth, but his pride seemed in constant conflict with the spirit of Jesus' ministry. Peter took great pride in his own self-perceived strength. He even went so far as to say to Jesus in Luke 22:33, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death" (NIV).

"I tell you, Peter," replied Jesus, "before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me" (Luke 22:34, NIV).

Proverbs 16:18 says that pride leads to destruction, and Peter became a living example of this truth. Lightning McQueen's pride kept him from knowing friendship; Peter's pride caused him to turn his back on his best friend. But both were humbled and both discovered what's important in life. As for Peter, he would go on to become one of the greatest evangelists who ever walked the earth.

Flaw #4: Anger
In Spider-Man, Harry Osborn blames Spider-Man for his father's death. He wants revenge. His anger consumes him. In the second movie, he discovers Spider-Man is his best friend Peter Parker. But that doesn't stop his rage. Peter has to pay for what he did, Harry thinks. In Spider-Man 3, he's dead-set upon revenge—if not by killing Peter, then at least by stripping him of happiness.

Harry is like Jonah (Jonah 1-4). The fish-eaten prophet was chosen by God to deliver a message to the sinful people of Nineveh: The city would be destroyed in 40 days unless they repented. Jonah delivered the message, but was all for Nineveh's destruction. Like Harry, he wanted the guilty to get what was coming to them. He got himself a place to sit with a view of the city so that he could see the destruction firsthand. But when the people of Nineveh repented, God showed compassion and spared them. This made Jonah really mad. His anger burned. Both Harry's and Jonah's anger blinded them from seeing what really mattered: compassion, forgiveness, truth and mercy. God showed Jonah he had no right to be angry. In Spider-Man 3, Harry's anger subsided in the face of truth, compassion and forgiveness. He realized his mistake, put aside his anger, and became Peter's indispensable ally.

Flaw #5: A Dark Past
Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings is a lot like Moses in Exodus. Both Moses and Aragorn were in self-imposed exile, trying to escape dark pasts. In The Fellowship of the Ring, Aragorn is heir to a throne. But his rightful throne was tarnished by the power-hungry legacy of his ancestor, King Isildur. When asked why he's afraid of his forefather's legacy, Aragorn says, "The same blood flows in my veins—the same weakness." He fears the past will repeat itself. But Aragorn does eventually overcome the shadow of the past. He rises up, becomes king, and delivers his people from the forces of darkness.

In Exodus 2, Moses also exiles himself, but because of his own past. He killed an Egyptian he had witnessed beating an Israelite. In Exodus 3, God speaks to Moses and tells him to return to Egypt and deliver the Israelites out of Pharaoh's hand. Moses is afraid. Like Aragorn, his past weakens him. He seems to try any excuse he can think of not to go, but like Aragorn, he eventually overcomes his fears and delivers his people from bondage.

Once again, a flawed human becomes a great hero—thanks only to God. In fact, all of these great stories point out the basic truth that we all have flaws to contend with. But they also point to another truth. With God working in us, we too can overcome and be heroes.

Now What?

• Think about your favorite movie or TV heroes. What are their flaws? What makes them heroic in spite of their shortcomings?

• In 2 Corinthians 12:9, God tells the Apostle Paul: "My power is strongest when you are weak" (CEV). What do you think that means? What things hold you back?

• How could God's power be displayed by your specific weaknesses?

• Study 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 with your small group. Look for specific ways this passage applies to your own weaknesses that don't seem to go away.

What would you say? Part 1

Someone(whom i will call W) replied to a post by J after he wrote bout his struggles as a Christian etc..etc
Here's what W said:

MY mom is a Catholic, my father is a Taoist and my wife is a Buddhist.. i am a free thinker....
I dun have any problem with three kind of thinking in my family...I go along wherever that needs me...Chinese New year i go temple

to pray...i pray at home...and Christmas i go to church and pray...
I 'd study all the religion...they have good point and some blur point... Not all are correct...but they share one common thing...dun do
bad things...No forcing...Be humble...Take it easy...
In the end of the day, i would said, anything that makes ur life feel better, that is good enough...

I believe, as christian, the "God" that u believe will want you to be happy, will want ur family to be happy....right?
??+???will only makes life difficult....

Do read and evaluate my reply. Do give give ur opinions too. After i read my reply again, i felt did not reply properly enough..anyway..what has been said can't be taken back and can only be corrected.

And here is my reply to W.

Hi ,
i hope u dun mind me commenting on what u wrote above. U may hv heard these "rubbish" b4 but do bear with me.

Firstly, Christianity is totally different from other religions. It is a RELATIONSHIP with God.u know ...boyfriend girlfriend, mother, father, family members...they people who are in relationship with us...we talk to them, go through happy and sad times with
them...etc...in other words...they are ALIVE....they communicate....etc
A relationship can change anyone's life forever....this relationship with the God who loves us can change your life too

Next, there is only one God, who created all of us and the earth,universe..etc

U said all religions share "one common thing"....well...Think about this...A person robs and gives the money to his family for food allowance. Another person works and gives the money to his family for food allowance. The "one common thing" is they supply money for the family. So, are they both the same?

You said:"In the end of the day, i would said, anything that makes ur life feel better, that is good enough..."
Jesus did promise to give us love joy and peace. But he also said we will face trials(problems) and persecution(hated by ppl who don't accept christianity).
Therefore, when a person becomes a christian, he or she should be reacy to face such things....Jesus didn't promise us a good life on earth...He came to save us so that we could go to heaven...Do u know where you are going afer u die? u may say i dun
care....then we might as well commit suicide when we can't take it anymore...BTW,those who do so, go to hell coz they took their
own lives when God didn't permit it.

Finally u said"I believe, as christian, the "God" that u believe will want you to be happy, will want ur family to be happy....right?"
happiness is very subjective....Recall or imagine a mother who disallows her son to go out late. He must be back by 12midnite...that boy told his mom he would not be happy and couldn't enjoy himself if he comes back so early....BUT..mom doesn't care...she wants her son to be happy but she will not allow him to do whatever he wants....the boy gets frustrated and unhappy....
Same thing with God,He loves us and wants us to be happy but He doesn't always let us do watever we want...there are rules to follow...whether we can understand or not....

If you forget everything i mentioned...Just remember one thing...one day when all hope is gone or u face problems...remember there

a God out there who is waiting to receive u and love u...

Coming up...part 2...things get more complicated....

Here’s what I did slightly before, on and slightly after my 23rd birthday.
CAUTION...its gonna be long...take ur time.....hehe

Its 4am (23aug08) as I’m typing this…just couldn’t wait till tomoro..I feel so STONE now….

It was after 10pm dee(Thurs,21aug)…I was so “STONE” trying to do my tutorials. I kind of expected a call from S anytime soon. And so the call came……”oh man…I still can’t do these tutorial questions….argh!!! “ K fetched us out to Murni…

It was bout 10.30pm if I was not mistaken that we reached Murni….
While S and K were busy chatting most of the time, I watched the Olympics highlights on Astro…I did talk “a bit” from time to time we took turns talking bout our first crush la,…etc…..
Most of the time I was just laughing and enjoying the jokes and stories from S and K.

Then K had to meet his “semi” coz she was sick….So he left us at Murni at 12.40am…
I ended up chatting with S while enduring the 2nd hand smoke….we chat all sorts of whatever la…then at 2.40am, K came back with his “semi”, P. She was sneezing and blowing her nose due to cold but that didn’t stop her from “STONING” with us for the rest of the nite…

The nite continued with stories and jokes (accompanied by random acts and sounds from K), with occasional questions thrown at me because I was the birthday boy and I was too quiet…. And not to forget some lame jokes from me from time to time….So we STONEd on till Murni closed….have u done that b4?

Then we walked around to 7 eleven and then to the car and then to McDs. There we did the same thing as we did at Murni…..I can’t remember anymore actually…

We decided to sleep in the car do regain some energy for Dim Sum. So the car was parked in front of the Dim Sum shop while we slept from bout 6.20am till after 7am…Then we stormed into the Dim Sum shop…somehow P was the most energetic at that time…So it was the same thing again…stories, jokes and a little gossip bout someone( sorry God ) actually I dunno who the person is la…her name was never mentioned..I was just listening and commenting from time to time…
If I’m not mistaken, we refilled the chrysanthemum teapot 7 times(which later caused me problems when I was sleeping coz I had to wake up 3 times to go to the toilet)….. We left the shop at about 9.30am….S had to teach tuition at 11am and K had to work at 2pm…crazy la..They’re gonna be so STONE…

All in all, it was fun to watch 3 of these ppl talk…..and to talk with them of coz….

Next,,,tidur ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz

After bangun, felt so STONE….suppose to study but no mood…

U know wat….I had a free gift from Hotlink ,which was I get to call all Maxis numbers on my birthday for FREE…yes…FREE.

I was so STONE and blur … My excuses were: don’t know what to say….malu…some ppl are working…the ppl I wanted to call are DIGI customers….no mood…

I ended up watching The Game Plan…then chat with my mom using MSN…..actually I was listening to her stories most of the time…

Then it was dinner time….I ate alone at 4th college..so “chharmmm”…it was only then (after 8pm) that I decided to use my FREE calls….I started calling who I felt I should call….then only I started Alphabetically…

I used the same lines for almost every call “Hi…you why I suddenly called u? coz I get to call all Maxis numbers for free today..only today…u know why? ………………………………… Coz its my birthday!”
Most ppl didn’t know bout such a gift by Hotlink….Only 1 person immediately said “Oh,its ur birthday!”

As time went by, my confidence grew…and I got heated up…I just wanted to call more ppl…. But TIME WAS RUNNING OUT…..I called ppl whom I hv never talked with for more than a year, ppl whom see quite often but never talk to, ppl who have graduated, etc etc…

At the “G” list I called a fren who then suggested we go out to do the tutorials I couldn’t do…I agreed…

While waiting for that fren, I continued to call ppl. It was 11pm already when I only reached “H….then at 11.30pm….that fren reached college already but I was still talking…aiyo… I was not done…. Jgn la potong steam….

That fren, ended up bringing me for bday supper….On the way to the makan place..I was still busy trying to accomplish as many calls as possible….

I just finished the K list at 11.58pm…I had to make a final call…so I called this fren from the P list….I missed a few numbers I would have called b4 P if had the time …but I had quickly choose someone to call….at the end this P fren offered to bake me a cake…wat liau…malu la….but cannot say no rite…

Aiyo…I really regret not calling earlier…..sob…. so i failed to accomplish my target...

After chatting and makan, that “G” list fren brought me to 9th coll to do the tutorials I couldn’t do on my own….I was half STONE but at least I could understand what he taught me…it was after 3am that we could not tahan staring at Maths anymore….

Then balik tak tidur lagi….main facebook and typed this experience into Word ,then tried to add the "read more" feature into my blog, which worked....

a pic worth a thousand words

"A picture worth a thousand words. Please look at Lee Chong Wei and Misbun Sidek hugging. Examine it with clear mind and pure heart. Hopefully, their partnership will win gold for our Merdeka Day and further break racist wall that divide us for a long time."

taken from http://blog.thestar.com.my/permalink.asp?id=16620 , an article by a Malay guy bout the UiTm issue. Its a good article to read.

It took me a while to find that pic.....This "hug" has been quite a hot topic in blogs. I hope we all learn something from it.

Of coz, Chong Wei didn't win the Gold, but what matters was both Misbun and Chong Wei showed us how true Malysians should be like....

Moving people to the right >>>

The purple portion below is taken from http://musiquemer.blogspot.com , a blog by Lim Tse Hwei, a junior taking Law who just entered UM. It's a small part from a message by Dr Living Lee, our PKV advisor. This small part was encouraging and was in fact the only thing i kept with me till now. i wanted to blog bout it but was too lazy and busy. She did a good summary so i asked her for permission to post a portion of it.

BTW, u know how i got her blog address? I don't even know her.

I was "too free" and i Googled the word PKVUM. I looked tru the blogs in the results and stumbled upon hers.

She herself doesn't know me and wouldn't be able to recognize me. The only thing she knows bout me is that i wore an Orange t-shirt in the MSK video i made in which i appeared at the ending.

Here's the portion:

" "We're always inviting our friends to come to church, come to this event, come to PKV, come for cell group, and when they don't, we get all disappointed and we think we're failures. In a sense, you are. Because Jesus said to go. Most of us these days are just trying to get people to come."

Ooook. Aku tercucuk. Although I got go a bit also.

Next, he present this diagram (don't have original copy, so please make do with the pirated version):

"None of my friends came to know Christ when I was in school, or in university. I used to feel like a failure. Is there something wrong with the way I live my life? Is it my testimony? But when I was first presented with this diagram, the person who showed it to me said that evangelism is moving people to the right. Some of your friends may be openly hostile or indifferent when you first tell them about the Gospel. It's okay. You know, whenever we gather for university reunions, I find that most of my friends are now Christians, and even leaders in the church. Just because you haven't done the harvesting, doesn't mean you're a failure."

What r u feeding on???

For this post, the scope is on songs.

I'd like to suggest that u listen to christian songs...

okok....not all the time of coz...but there must be a balance...

watch out for those songs with stupid lyrics like"suicidal suicidal...." , " keep keep bleeding in love","touch my body"(hmm..), " don't u wish ur girlfriend was hot like me?"...the list goes on...stupid rite???? DON'T feed on these stuff...

There r so many good non-christian bands out there...as well as christian ones...

Words are powerful...christian songs have encouraged me and rekindled my faith from time to time . Remember the verse:Faith comes by hearing , and hearing of the Word of God"?

BTW, there's an online radio station called Positive Life Radio which plays a good mix of songs...so far the songs are all nice and encouraging....do listen to it while doin ur work ... and u can make full use of ur braodband too..lol..

here's the site: http://www.plr.org/Community/listen.html

What does it mean to be Blessed?

What does it mean to be blessed? Good health? financial stability or prosperity? a good life partner? good results?

I realised that I didn't know wat true blessing meant when a speaker at CF asked us: Do u know wat it means to be blessed ? I couldn't answer.....(in my mind were prosperity, good health, good family...etc) I don't seem to be having all of these "blessings"..I cannot deny I have been blessed in so many ways but there are also dilemmas like: The Israelites were slaves in Egypt for 400 years...how is that a blessing? Why did Job have to suffer badly? Why am i in this situation? Is everything my fault?

The answer I caught for the day was: We are blessed because we know God. Hmm quite complicated...No matter wat happens, we know God knows best...God didn't tell Job why he had to suffer......the blessings we WANT may not build us to be the person God intended us to be...To KNOW God ain't easy....I keep forgetting and get disappointed....But He is faithful to remind and teach us if we continually seek Him...

BTW, I don't like to sound so spiritual...ppl tend to look up to me and think I'm super spiritual....
Let's just grow up together as Christians....I fail too.....

Back to my 2nd home with mixed feelings

Yup...my 2nd home is 3rd Residential College in UM.....i do miss it.....can't wait to be back on tues(8th)

I have mixed feelings as I go back to uni life.....
Only those closer to me (or if i'm willing to tell ) will know the "things" which have been playing in my mind quite often and will continue to be a challenge as I go tru this final year at UM.

I think i have at least 3 other christian friends who will start uni life this sem with that hesitatant feeling..its like u dunno what's ahead and u can't trust urself to keep to the resolutions u made so many times before....

Many things have turned out not according to what I hoped it would be like.....

Yup, in God I still wanna trust...hard it is...choice I do not have...patience will be tested....limits will be pushed....God works in ways we cannot see....strength from above..how to understand...it will come when I need it.....

BRING IT ON!!!lol

emo

it's time i tried one of those "emo" posts..hmmm..how do they do it?...

I am/have/feel

troubled
lousy
lazy
no mood
passionless no ambition
no direction
etc

Nobody can really see this coz some ppl say my face is expressionless...
maybe my mom did see some of this and told me that i've been acting different...

HAHAHA..anyway..ya..I do experience difficulties and emotional problems...but I'm tired of dwelling on them...By God's grace I'm continually renewed and changed...

No way am I dwelling on these useless feelings...Jesus didn't die on the cross and rose again for nothing...Although I still have so many problems, the only hope is still to fear God and obey Him...That's what King Solomon said after he tried everything under the sun...yup,he tried everything and all was VANITY...MEANINGLESS...His conclusion was

"Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad."

Ecclesiastes 12 :13-14

Also, I'm reminded in verse 1 " Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.”"

Why Fellowship? Why go to church? Etc

These are among the questions which may have crossed our minds....
It may be so familiar for 2nd generation Christians like me to go to church, christian fellowship, etc
but there many who would rather go tru life alone. i've come across ppl like that...i tot ppl always wanted company...but maybe not...maybe even christians want to be left alone coz they were hurt, etc

There's a friend of mine who once said he wanted to quit goin to church coz it didn't benefit him,etc....

Then there's another friend who says she feels ok not having a fellowship of christian friends. She also said that she was uneasy with those who were too friendly at church...wat???
And I just found out from her recently that she didn't know that Jesus is the only way to heaven although she had been goin to church from time to time. She thought that each religion has their own beliefs and gods, so each believer will go to their own heaven, rebirth, etc, etc

It was quite hard to explain things to her coz i used Mandarin...wah...hehe...i tried my best la...of coz there's English and Hokkien...it was also hard to even start this topic coz it feels awkward to talk to a fellow christian bout God....Somehow I had to find out how much she knows bout God so I started out asking her what it means to be a christian...it didn't turn out rite but eventually she said weird stuff as mentioned above...so I had a hard time trying to convince her that Jesus is the only way which is why being a Christian ain't easy...

The juniors are coming to UM soon..What will we seniors tell them bout God,CF,church? think about it...

Dat's all for now..saja wanted to blog something...
